Disc 1 – INSTRUMENT OF WAR – PART ONE –  Ladies From Hell’
‘Ladies from hell’ was a title given to the fierce kilted highlanders by their enemies. The use of the bagpipes in war is very ancient among the Celtic people and this film traces the story from ancient times up to the end of World War One, when Scottish pipers still led their troops into battle. This definitive history contains rare archive footage. Specially shot sequences include:

  • the last survivor of the Boer War
  • the Battle of Fort Ticonderoga, New York
  • last piper in action during WWI

Disc 2 – INSTRUMENT OF WAR – PART TWO –  ‘Call to the Blood’
This film traces the effect of the bagpipes from the battlefields of World War II to the present day. Its haunting sound awakens a distant past in people around the world – the ‘Call to the Blood’ is strong. Specially shot sequences include:

  • The duties of a regimental piper
  • Scots pipers in the Burma campaign of WWII
